DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — Positive momentum returned to the at the Tanzania Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market at the end of today’s trading session. The equity market capitalization added TZS 151 billion (about US$70.13 million) to end at TZS 22,166 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,016 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) surged by 17.32 points or 0.69 percent to end at 2,531.08 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index went down by 29.76 points or 0.64 percent to close at 4,631.91 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index sagged by 45.44 points or 1.45 percent to end at 3,096.39 points. Industrial & Allied sector index fell by 0.34 percent or 20.93 points to close at 6,194.49 points and Commercial services sector index dropped 41.86 points or 1.04 percent to close at 3,974.18.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 2,107.69 million from 233,013 shares traded in 93 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 171.98 million from 163,666 shares traded in 93 deals. CRDB had 104,354 shares traded in 73 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 938 shares in 8 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 201 shares in 3 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company traded 1,500 shares in 6 deals and DCB Commercial had 820 in 1 deal and Swissport Tanzania had 200 shares in 2 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with three gainers and seven losers. Acacia Mining Limited gained 4.75 percent to settle at TZS 8,160, East Africa Breweries Limited added 3.68 percent to close at TZS 5,920 and Jubilee Holdings Limited ended at TZS 10,290 by adding 0.49 percent. On the losers’ table were Kenya Airways traded at TZS 110.00 by losing 8.33 percent, Kenya Commercial Bank slipped by 3.03 percent with closing price of TZS 960.00 and National Microfinance Bank crashed by 2.41 percent to conclude at TZS 2,830.00. Swissport Tanzania Limited and DCB Commercial Bank both slumped by 1.33 percent (at TZS 7,400) and 0.85 percent (at TZS 585.00).
